On the weekend of September 5-6, the city of Trieste, located on the North East of Italy right on the Slovenian border, will be celebrating the 10th European Day of Jewish Culture. This celebration occurs this year on the same day in 28 countries in Europe and will be particularly and uniquely noted in the city of Trieste with an unprecedented event focusing on the theme of Hospitality - Knowing and Welcoming the Other.
The event, an in-depth cultural exploration including rituals, debates, art exhibitions and a grand musical happening, is organized by the Jewish Community of Trieste together with the WeDoCARE Association and in collaboration with the Glocal Forum Italy Foundation and the UNESCO “Giovanni XXIII” Chair for religious pluralism and peace.
The aim of the gathering is to spread awareness on hospitality in its most broad definition: the predisposition of the spirit to listen to and to welcome fellow man.
Only by re-discovering the roots of our authentic identity can one truly practice hospitality in family and community life.
The Jewish Community opens its doors to the city and shares its spaces with the citizens of Trieste and their guests.
